Consort Road, Peckam
Client: Presentation Housing
Environmentally-Friendly Approach
This PPC 2000 contract required the provision of 49 high quality homes. The eco-sensitive build provides a revolutionary and environmentally friendly approach to affordable housing. Distinctive in its architectural presence the development incorporates numerous environmental features that reduce carbon emissions, lower living costs and offers residents a higher quality of life.
Carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by up to 83% from the photovoltaic array installed on the rooftops. Major energy savings are made possible from the provision of combined heat and power (CHP) systems capture. Insulation and the buildings’ heat recovery ventilation system, reduces energy costs for residents from half to a third of the national average.
Enhancing the Natural Habitat
More than just a recreational space, the development’s winter gardens also provide passive solar pre-heating during the winter months and acts as a buffer in warmer months. Completing Consort Road’s eco-sensitive design, the development has literally been capped off with a ‘brown roof’ – its roof having been planted with sedum to encourage urban wildlife and enhance the area’s natural habitats.
